Provide assistance to a higher-risk individual in your community by signing up for the NJ/PA Helping Hands matching program. Due to COVID-19, some local residents have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic. By signing up to volunteer, you will serve as an ally to support a local community member impacted by the pandemic, whether through offering peer counseling, companionship, or grocery/prescription pickup.
What’s expected:
You and your match will take complete ownership of the process, deciding when you meet, what you do, and how often you do it. Some ideas include:
Career Counseling
Offer to deliver groceries or prescriptions
Deliver a prepared meal from a local restaurant
Call every couple days to check in
Research to Find Helpful Resources for Your Match
Answer our discussion questions
Upon being matched, you and your match must agree to our safety protocols and online protocols.
Critical Volunteer Openings:
Allyship
Volunteer Outreach
Responsibilities:
Colleges and general outreach. Be responsible for reaching out to many different universities as well as other non-profit organizations in hopes of recruiting new volunteers for the Allyship program. Volunteer outreach members must be point person for recruiting new volunteers and creating ads/social media posts to do so as well as work with the main Helping Hands Outreach team.
Background / Desired Abilities:
Have experience with advertising/marketing. Capable of using social media. Require a 1-2 hour time commitment per week.

Match Outreach
Responsibilities:
Local community outreach. Here the match outreach point person will work closely with community leaders/organizations in hopes of broadcasting Allyship Program's services to many surrounding communities in the NJ/PA area. Here you will work closely with volunteer outreach as well as the Helping Hands outreach team, but you will focus on spreading Helping Hands message to entire communities.
Background / Desired Abilities:
Have some experience with advertising/marketing. Be able to use social media. Require a 1-2 hour time commitment per week.

Community Events Coordinator
Responsibilities:
The community events coordinator will take charge of creating/planning community events that Helping Hands can hold to further promote our organization to potential community members in need of our services as well as potential volunteers looking to make a difference in their community. Community events can consist of outdoor clothing drives, or even collaborations with local supermarkets for food drives. This community events coordinator will work closely with the Allyship Director as well as Presidents in developing realistic budget to make the event(s) possible.
Background / Desired Abilities:
Have enthusiasm and local connection. Be able to meet with local community organizations as well as local businesses. Requires a 1-2 hour time commitment per week.

Lead Advocate
Responsibilities:
You have a passion for advocacy in communities that are hurt the most during these trying times. Work closely with other non-profit organizations in helping make partnerships in addition to working on helping expand the Allyship program along with the entire Helping Hands organization itself.
Background / Desired Abilities:
Must be comfortable working with others and have experience with public speaking. Must reach out to outside non-profit organizations. Require a 1-2 hour time commitment per week
Virtual Compansionship :
Training Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Will lead monthly trainings for new volunteers in the virtual phone-call and pen-pal program. Full training materials have currently already been developed on topics ranging from sexual harassment, emergency situation response, exploitation, etc. In future months, the coordinator will be responsible for updating and improving these resources. The VC executive team will help you transition into this role.

Match Support
Responsibilities:
Will be responsible for checking in with residents and volunteers in active matches. Our volunteers fill out a post-call survey to rate their experience with their resident and the topics they discussed. Check the survey regularly and email or call residents and volunteers once every 2-3 weeks. If they are having trouble getting in contact with one another, providing assistance.

Volunteer Outreach Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Conducting outreach to recruit new volunteers. Working with the overall Helping Hands outreach team, as well as coming up with their own posts and content to gather new active volunteers to engage residents

Partnerships Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Conducting outreach to senior homes and other secluded communities that our program can serve. Conducting phone calls, online posts, etc. Will have team members that they will have to lead in order to acquire this task.

Virtual Concerts Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Reach out to our active volunteers to send in musical or dance related talent videos. Stich together these performances in a video and send out to our senior partner facilities to show to residents. Coordinate showings with senior facility contacts.

Outreach Team Members
Responsibilities:
Work under the Partnership director to make phone calls, send emails, and make posts to secluded communities in the NJ/PA region for our volunteers to serve.

Tutoring :
Program Co-director
Responsibilities:
Help coordinate all the different aspects of tutoring such as the outreach, tutoring (both virtual and in-person), and community events.

Find ways to get more tutors; research and call schools/tutor orgs/clubs where we could get tutors from; work with the outreach team to create social media posts for tutoring and other forms of outreach.

Responsibilities:
Stay in contact with our virtual tutoring partners; build a connection with our tutors and matches to ensure they are involved with HH and not disconnected; getting feedback from our virtual partners/tutors/matches.

In-person tutoring coordinator
Responsibilities:
Find more in-person tutoring partners (currently need to build partnership with Founders Center); stay in contact with our in-person tutoring partners; build a connection with our tutors and matches to ensure they are involved with hh and not disconnected; getting feedback from our in-person partners/tutors/matches
Background / Desired Abilities:
Preferably someone in West Philly because that's where the Founder's Center is located so it would be easier for them to build that connection; however, we will probably/hopefully have more in-person tutoring opportunities so essentially anyone located near an in-person tutoring org would be great!
